Examiner Review of The Exact Nature of Our Wrongs

Michele McManmon of The Examiner says…

“Even though this CD is listed as folk, it easily spreads from blues / western / spiritual / americana.  It gives a diverse feeling with a solid style structure that carries through each number allowing Nelson to explore similar genres, while stretching his musical wings.”

About Douglas

Inveterately honest, Douglas Nelson is the mysterious and dark kind of musician you want to learn more about… Sounding alternately like Mark Knopfler, John Hiatt or Tom Waits, Nelson has a sound that’s uniquely available and accessible, yet still indefinable. As a songwriter, Nelson’s lyrics are jam-packed with troubled meaning, haunting undertones and a zestful appreciation of the positive nature of the human spirit. Nelson tells stories of people overcoming adversity, helping themselves and taking responsibility for their lives. It’s a refreshing, original approach, told with wisdom and experience. You can trust this musician to tell you the truth without being dragged kicking and screaming away from your values and beliefs.

A Christian bluesman, inspired as much by the challenges of life as the spirit that leads him, Nelson is an unapologetic believer. While not always overtly praising God, his sentiments are evident in the ballads “In the Moment” and “Be My Vision.” Nelson’s spiritual leanings come from other sources, as well; his mother, a long battle with chemicals, his solidly grounded wife and from personally watching friends and family members make poor choices. Nelson doesn’t talk much about what he’s seen, preferring to let his words, carried into the ether on his original notes and melodies, express what he knows… It’s all there, on Nelson’s first CD, for any and all to enjoy, access and believe in.
